say hi to 2011

Photobucket
Said goodbye to the best friend today. Pardon our tired faces, it's been a crazy couple of days. Having him back is always a breath of fresh air, and despite the distance and our polar opposite schedules, we still manage to make it work. He's the one person who understands what I'm going through emotionally. All my fears, worries, etc, but his attitude is what I hope to carry with me through my last semester of University.

2010 has been good to me, and I am excited to start 2011 on my own.

It was oddly warm today, but spent my day in class, got free drinks courtesy of glacéau, and then booked it to work right after. I am looking forward to a few things in the coming weeks. Shopping date with Annie, bestie coming home for thanksgiving, no school, Fashion with Compassion, hockey, and possibly a road trip. I am so loving life right now!

Annie and I had the pleasure of helping Malorie Urbanovitch dress backstage yesterday at Transalta. It was her first time presenting a collection at Edmonton Fashion Week, but she looked like a veteran out there. A human ecology turned film studies student, Malorie started out as a stylist for Mode Models before trying her hand at designing. Her down to earth nature showed in her spring collection, which included beautiful high-waisted trousers, big collars on crop-tops paired with fun, high-waisted skirts, and knit dresses with hand woven yarn pieces. Thank you so much to Malorie for being such a sweetheart and I hope to see you again next year at fashion week!

I was a zombie this entire weekend, working and trying to fend off a cold. I mustered enough energy to attend EFW on Saturday with Sharon. I ended up running into Tim and Celina, and they both looked so cute. Overall, I was pretty disappointed because I basically went to see Sid Niegum's collection, only to realize that he was attending FIT and that he would not be showing anything this year. The pieces were actually from his previous collection last spring. I really want that tetris shirt! It would be nice to run errands in.

Summer is coming to an end! It was full of good laughs with best friends, fist pumping in the car, travels, and realizing a little more about what I want to do with my life. I am actually really excited to start my final year of University. Or maybe I am just excited to go back to school shopping...either way, I will be the one rocking faux fur (as always) to my 8am class. Don't judge.

I ended up at the Latitude 53 Gallery after a long day of awkward encounters, getting locked out of my interview, waiting to get my haircut and thought I deserved a drink. Met up with my sister and her boyfriend, stalked the food people because I was so hungry, walked through a bed sheet maze and had to do a double take on a picture of a baby cow's axed head. I swear I would appreciate art so much more if it wasn't so random sometimes.

Went to Mikado for lunch with my mom today. I forgot how good sushi tastes when you're on a specific carbs only diet.

I got this dress from the last Value Village sale back in May. I remember looking at the fitting room lineup and almost put the dress back because the line was so long, but my mom told me to disregard the sign on the bathroom door saying 'no merchandise beyond this point' and to try it on in there. Thanks Mom!

dream as you'll live forever

Photobucket

Quebec City was so much fun. Got in on Friday around 4:30, took in a free Cirque du Soleil show under a shady overpass, went to a dead bar, then to Dagobert, ate McDonalds for the first time in a month, missed out on free breakfast the next morning, went thrifting for 3 hours in village des valuers, cabbed to the next one outside of Quebec City, thrifted for another 3 hours, realized on the bus I had a serious suitcase dilemma, made it back to our dorm sans one earring, ate three mcchickens, pre-ed with the whole third floor wing, went back to Dagobert, crashed digital crush's dressing room, fell off the stage, went to mcdonalds in the pouring rain with bags over our heads, missed breakfast again and checked out the mall next to Laval before heading back to Trois-Pistoles. 12 more days until I'm reunited with the loves of my life.

Quick run to the supermarché before Quebec City tomorrow. So excited to visit Village des Valeurs. This is exactly how I speak French...with English words in between. Felt like dressing like a straight up bum...I think I got the point across. It was the first time I have woken up to rain, so it was nice to layer a little before the sun popped out in the afternoon.

I have been surrounded by nothing but french culture for the past couple of weeks...and I have to admit it's kind of growing on me. I've been having this re-occuring dream where I get sent to the office for speaking English. I wake up and wonder why my dream hasn't come true yet.

Hit the half way mark on Wednesday...it's hard to believe that my first couple of nights here I wondered if the program would ever end, and now I'm heading to Quebec City for the weekend and coming back to two more weeks. I think I might actually miss it here! There's something about driving by the St.Lawrence and watching the sunset that makes me think...would I trade it all away for some peace and quiet? Sometimes it's nice to escape reality for a while, but I can't imagine living away from the city...I like the smell of pollution and the sound of cars honking too much.

It was super hot on Saturday, but the breeze made it a perfect day to go bike riding down by the pier in between doing laundry and grocery shopping. The ride down was fun, but when it came time to go back uphill, I had to get off my bike and push it the rest of the way up. I may know how to shop for over eight hours straight, but my body is not built for extraneous amounts of activity.

I have been living in rompers for the past week and a half. I feel so dressed up when I wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt, and all the locals stare at me like I'm from Mars or something. I guess I should be used to this by now, since all I do is get weird stares back in Edmonton too. Oh well, more rompers for me!

the rest is still unwritten

Photobucket

I'm currently stealing internet outside of the cafe, there's a fly on my foot, I'm trying to load The Hills, and the guy working here is smoking and giving me dirty looks...great. Time is going by a lot faster now that I'm getting settled into small town life. It's still hard to adjust to the fact that the best clothing store here is Ardenes, but that's the beauty of living out of two suitcases.

Trois-Pistoles actually has a small thrift store that operates on the weirdest hours. I checked it out before my workshop on Wednesday, and it wasn't so much that it was not my taste, but the clothes were extremely large and sold by the set. Oh well, thrifting is virtually impossible in this town, which is why I'll be going to Quebec City next week.

My French classes are actually going well. It's amazing to think that two weeks ago, I spoke no french and did not understand a word. And now, depending on how fast the person is talking, I can sort of follow along. Only three more weeks until I'm back in Edmonton!

Our first time in Montreal, and it did not disappoint. We spent our first night screaming our heads off for Lady Gaga. It didn't even matter that I was still recovering from the most turbulent plane ride ever, or the fact it started pouring as soon as we dropped off our bags and had no idea where the Bell Centre was...kind of crazy to think that just a couple weeks ago, Canadiens were battling for their playoff lives in the very same arena. Of course, Lady Gaga was amazing. Show me your teeth!

Montreal is pretty much like an extended version of Whyte Avenue, but with cuter boys, open patios, and better shopping . I will be back. I have yet to conquer Mount Royal or find the vintage shops on Notre-Dame. I will never learn how to read a map properly.

Spending the next month in Trois-Pistoles now. It is hands down the smallest town I have ever set foot in. If you think the towns in Alberta are small, you're in for the shock of your life. I will update more with pictures to show you what I mean...the internet here keeps coming in and out, it's kind of annoying.

Had a goodbye dinner with some of my closest friends before heading to Montreal. We ate jumbo shrimp and hotdogs, joked about eating for four, looked through old yearbooks, talked about "gas station" and how he can never forgive me for cutting up his hello kitty erasers in front of his face. Sorry, but you can't win my heart over with erasers. You can if you bring me to McDonalds.

Went shopping with Annie yesterday...only to spend about an hour in Forever 21 laughing at lethal headbands, grandma dresses and the crochet dilemma. It helps when we lay it out on the table (or stuff it under the table) like that.

I went to Healthfare to steal some free wifi before meeting up with my sister for dinner. I was so lost in thought that I ended up walking into the utility closet while looking for the bathroom. I think it took me about ten seconds to realize that the water heater was not the sink. I'm leaving Edmonton in two days, and it really hit me after saying my first goodbye that I will miss my friends, even the ones who I have fallen out of touch with. Sometimes all it takes is a wrinkled shirt to notice.

After dinner, Sharon and I caught a Edmonton Energy basketball game over at NAIT. Andrew Parker is no Chris Bosh, but the man can really dunk. Go AGP.

Went for pasta and bbt with my favourite people in the world. They even asked for my charming to come in a glass instead of a regular cup because they know I'm a sucker for cheap marketing. Really, I'm not that hard to please.

My best friend assigned herself as my unofficial photographer. Thanks Kim! She always looks amazing and karaoke night was no exception. I want her Jeffrey Campbell clogs!
